Engineering-Led PCB Assembly for Commercial, Industrial and High-Reliability Electronics

Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly is far more than the process of placing components onto a circuit board. It is the point where product design, engineering knowledge, manufacturing discipline and quality management combine to create reliable electronic assemblies that perform throughout their operational life.

At Jade Electronics, we approach every project as an engineering partnership. Whether supporting a commercial product launch, a complex aerospace assembly or a long-established industrial control system, our objective remains the same: to understand the product, understand the customer's expectations and establish the most appropriate manufacturing strategy before production begins.

From prototype development through to sustained production manufacture, every project is supported by structured engineering reviews, controlled manufacturing processes and a commitment to continual improvement.

Engineering Before Manufacturing

Engineering Principle

Good manufacturing decisions begin with good information. Taking the time to understand a project before preparing a quotation reduces assumptions, improves planning and helps establish a stronger foundation for long-term manufacturing success.

Every electronic assembly is different.

Whilst the manufacturing equipment may remain the same, the engineering considerations behind each product rarely do.

PCB design, component technologies, inspection requirements, testing, traceability, product lifecycle expectations and customer-specific standards all influence how an assembly should be manufactured.

For this reason, we begin every project with engineering rather than production.

By understanding the complete manufacturing requirement at the earliest opportunity, we can identify potential manufacturing risks, improve production efficiency and establish stable, repeatable processes before the first board enters manufacture.

We believe good manufacturing begins with good engineering.

Understanding Manufacturing Capacity

Engineering Perspective

Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Assembly

Surface Mount Technology forms the foundation of modern electronics manufacturing and enables compact, highly functional electronic products to be assembled with excellent repeatability and manufacturing efficiency.

Our SMT capability supports prototype and production assemblies across a wide range of commercial and high-reliability applications.

Whether manufacturing simple control electronics or complex multi-layer assemblies, every product follows controlled manufacturing processes supported by inspection and quality verification throughout production.

Engineering Experience That Adds Value

Electronics manufacturing is built upon process, but successful manufacturing is equally dependent upon engineering judgement.

Whilst documented procedures define how products should be manufactured, experience often determines how potential manufacturing risks are recognised before they affect production.

Our engineering team brings experience gained across more than three decades of electronics manufacturing, supporting commercial, industrial and high-reliability sectors including aerospace, defence, marine, scientific instrumentation and medical technologies.

That experience enables us to review manufacturing data, recognise potential process risks and recommend practical improvements at the earliest opportunity.

Quality should not depend solely upon inspection after manufacture. Wherever possible, quality should be designed into the manufacturing process before the first component is placed.

One of the most common questions we are asked is:

"Are you a low, medium or high-volume manufacturer?"

Whilst it appears to be a straightforward question, there is no universally accepted definition within the electronics manufacturing industry.

More importantly, production capability is not determined solely by the number of assemblies required.

A monthly requirement for 2,000 printed circuit boards may represent a relatively straightforward programme for one product, whilst a considerably smaller quantity of complex, highly inspected assemblies may require significantly greater manufacturing resource.

Production capacity is influenced by many factors, including:

  • PCB complexity

  • Component density

  • SMT and through-hole content

  • Inspection and verification requirements

  • Functional testing

  • Traceability

  • Product mix

  • Supply chain resilience

  • Production ramp-up times

  • Customer delivery schedules

For this reason, we avoid categorising projects using arbitrary production bands.

Instead, every enquiry begins with an engineering review that allows us to understand the complete manufacturing requirement before recommending the most appropriate production strategy.

Ultimately, successful electronics manufacturing is measured by consistently delivering quality products—not simply by the number of assemblies produced.

Through-Hole & Mixed Technology Assembly

Whilst surface mount technology dominates many electronic products, through-hole components remain essential where additional mechanical strength, power handling or specialised component technologies are required.

Many products combine both SMT and through-hole technologies.

Our manufacturing processes are designed to integrate these technologies efficiently, ensuring each assembly receives the appropriate manufacturing sequence, inspection and quality controls throughout production.

Prototype & New Product Introduction

The earliest stages of a product's lifecycle often determine its long-term manufacturing success.

By working with customers during prototype development and New Product Introduction (NPI), we can review manufacturing information before production begins, helping identify opportunities to improve manufacturability, reduce production risk and support a smoother transition into ongoing manufacture.

Experience gained during these early discussions frequently provides greater value than any change made once production has already commenced.

Quality Built Into Every Stage

Quality is not a department within Jade Electronics; it is embedded throughout every stage of the manufacturing process.

From quotation and engineering review through to procurement, production, inspection, testing and delivery, every activity follows structured quality processes developed around recognised industry disciplines.

Our commitment to continual improvement is demonstrated through:

  • AS9100D-aligned manufacturing systems

  • ISO 9001 certified quality management

  • Zero non-conformances recorded during our January 2026 ISO audit

  • Fourteen positive observations identified during the same audit

  • JOSCAR registered supplier status with top-tier ESG performance

  • SC21 benchmarking demonstrating Bronze-level performance after only two years of trading

  • Controlled documentation and full product traceability

  • A culture of continual improvement across every area of the business

These achievements reflect the strong engineering and quality foundations upon which Jade Electronics has been built.

Industries We Support

Every sector presents different technical, regulatory and commercial requirements.

Rather than specialising in a single market, Jade Electronics supports customers across a diverse range of industries, adapting manufacturing processes to suit each application's specific requirements.

Our experience includes:

  • Commercial Electronics

  • Industrial Automation

  • Aerospace

  • Defence

  • Marine

  • Medical Technologies

  • Scientific Instrumentation

  • Communications

  • Energy & Environmental Monitoring

  • Security Systems

  • Test & Measurement Equipment

  • Control & Monitoring Systems

This breadth of experience allows ideas and best practices developed in one sector to inform solutions in another while always respecting customer confidentiality and regulatory requirements.

Why Choose Jade Electronics?

Choosing an electronics manufacturing partner is about more than production capability.

It is about selecting a company that understands manufacturing, communicates openly and builds long-term relationships through consistent delivery.

Jade Electronics was established with a clear objective: to build a manufacturing business founded on engineering excellence, disciplined quality management and sustainable growth.

Every investment we make—whether in people, systems or processes—is evaluated against one simple question:

Will it improve the service and confidence we provide to our customers?

That philosophy continues to shape how we manufacture today and how we intend to grow in the future.
